How to Make Mujadara (Lentils and Rice)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup small whole lentils
  • 1 cup Egyptian rice
  • 2 dry onions
  • Salt
  • Olive oil
  • Method:
  • First remove impurities from the lentils, wash them well, place them in a deep pot and cover with water.
  • Meanwhile, slice the onions thinly and dip them in flour to get crispy, delicious onions.

  1. Boil the lentils until tender. In the meantime, rinse the rice and keep it wet for about 15 minutes, then drain. When the lentils are done, add the rice and simmer on low heat, adding a pinch of salt...

  3. Fry the onion slices in olive oil until golden; then pour the oil used for frying over the rice and lentils and stir. When the water dries up on the rice and lentils, turn off the heat and let the pot sit covered for a quarter of an hour...
  4. Then spoon the mujadara onto a serving dish and top with the crispy onions...
  5. Serve mujadara with green salad, yogurt, and pickles of all kinds.
