Homemade Sfouf — a tried-and-true home recipe
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 cups coarse semolina
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups milk (liquid)
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon yellow food coloring (or a pinch of turmeric)
- 3 tablespoons baking powder
- a dash of vanilla
- pine nuts or almonds for garnish
- tahini to grease the pan
- Syrup with honey for brushing the sfouf:
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 4 tablespoons honey
- How to prepare the syrup with honey:
- Bring the sugar and water to a boil, then add the honey and boil for a couple more minutes.
Method
- Mix the sfouf ingredients well, stirring until the sugar dissolves. You can dissolve the sugar in the milk before adding it.
- Let the mixture rest for 15 minutes.Timers: 15 min
- Spread it into the pan after greasing the pan with tahini.
- Top with nuts as desired.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 30 minutes at 180°C.Timers: 30 min
- When you remove it from the oven, brush the top with the syrup to give the sfouf the desired shine.
- Let the homemade sfouf cool before serving.
