Homemade Sfouf — a tried-and-true home recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups coarse semolina
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups milk (liquid)
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon yellow food coloring (or a pinch of turmeric)
  • 3 tablespoons baking powder
  • a dash of vanilla
  • pine nuts or almonds for garnish
  • tahini to grease the pan
  • Syrup with honey for brushing the sfouf:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • How to prepare the syrup with honey:
  • Bring the sugar and water to a boil, then add the honey and boil for a couple more minutes.

Method

  1. Mix the sfouf ingredients well, stirring until the sugar dissolves. You can dissolve the sugar in the milk before adding it.
  2. Let the mixture rest for 15 minutes.

  3. Spread it into the pan after greasing the pan with tahini.
  4. Top with nuts as desired.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven for 30 minutes at 180°C.
    Timers: 30 min
  6. When you remove it from the oven, brush the top with the syrup to give the sfouf the desired shine.
  7. Let the homemade sfouf cool before serving.
