Basbousa... this dessert is very easy to prepare. Garnish it with nuts as desired or shredded coconut.

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups semolina
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1/2 cup liquid milk
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • Warm syrup (qatr or shira)
  • For garnish:
  • Pistachios and shredded coconut, or as desired

Method

  1. Whisk the eggs with vanilla, then add the sugar and continue to stir quickly or whisk.
  2. Gradually add the yogurt, milk, and oil.
  3. When the liquid ingredients are well combined, add the semolina and baking powder and mix well.
  4. Grease a Pyrex dish or baking pan with oil, or line its bottom with parchment paper, then pour in the basbousa mixture.
  5. Place the pan in the oven on the middle rack for about half an hour until golden brown.
  6. Remove it from the oven and pour the warm syrup over it while it's hot.
  7. Garnish with pistachios and coconut, then let it cool before serving the easiest and most delicious basbousa dessert.
