- 1 cup cracked (split) lentils
- 1/2 cup Egyptian rice
- Salt
- Lemon juice to taste

Method
- Rinse the lentils well, then place them in a pot, cover with water, and put the pot on the heat
- When the lentils are cooked.. add the washed and drained rice
- Leave them on low heat to cook together, stirring occasionally
- When the rice grain is cooked.. add the salt and stir, then add the lemon juice and stir, and leave them on low heat until they thicken slightly
- When the cracked-lentil mujaddara begins to stick to the bottom of the pot.. remove it from the heat because this means it has reached the desired consistency.. this usually takes about 15 minutes after adding the salt and lemon
- Spoon the cracked-lentil mujaddara into plates because it is customary to serve it as individual portions on plates.. serve vegetables or salad alongside it
