Basbousa, or cream kanafeh, is one of the tastiest and easiest cream desserts. Try it and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups coarse semolina
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 can qimer cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Prepared cooked cream

  • For soaking the basbousa:
  • 2 tablespoons ghee + warm sugar syrup

Method

  1. Using an electric mixer, blend the coarse semolina with the eggs, sugar, oil, qimer cream, baking powder, and vanilla.
  2. Divide the mixture into two portions.
  3. Spread the first portion in a baking tray greased with butter, then place it in a preheated oven from the bottom only at 160°C until the edges just begin to turn golden.
  4. Add the prepared cream and spread it evenly over the batter.
  5. Spread the second portion of basbousa batter over the cream and smooth the top.
  6. Place it in a preheated oven from both top and bottom for about 5 minutes.
    Timers: 5 min
  7. Then turn off the bottom heat and brown it from the top.
  8. Remove from the oven and pour over the melted ghee and warm syrup.
  9. Serve the cream basbousa warm or cold.
