Sahlab is one of those hot desserts that is perfect for the cold season. It brings warmth, tastes delicious, and is inexpensive to make. Here is how to prepare it at home.
Ingredients
- Sahlab mix:
- 1 cup powdered milk
- 1 cup fine sugar
- 1 cup ground rice
- 3/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup whipped cream powder
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1 packet mastic, or about 6 mastic beads
- When heating on the stove, add:
- 1 cup liquid milk for every 2 tablespoons of the mix
- A pinch of rose water and a pinch of orange blossom water
Method
- Crush the mastic beads with 1 teaspoon of sugar until smooth.
- Mix all the sahlab mix ingredients together and sift them. You can keep the mix in a jar in the fridge until needed.
- To make the sahlab, take 2 tablespoons of the mix for each cup of liquid milk. You can add 1 tablespoon of sugar if you prefer it sweeter. Place in a saucepan over medium heat with a pinch of orange blossom water and rose water, and stir for about 3 minutes until the sahlab thickens.Timers: 3 min
- Pour into cups, sprinkle with cinnamon and coconut flakes, and serve immediately.
