Ingredients

  • 284 g marzipan dough
  • 115 g almond meal (ground almonds)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • pinch of salt
  • sliced almonds
  • optional: chocolate

  • 1 1/2 cups ground almonds
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered (icing) sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp orange blossom water (or rose water)

Method

  1. Cut the marzipan dough into pieces and place them in a bowl, then add the almond meal and powdered sugar and mix them by hand.
  2. In a separate small bowl put the egg white, vanilla, and a pinch of salt and mix them.
  3. Add the egg mixture to the almond mixture and beat them with a hand mixer for about 5 minutes.
  4. In another bowl place the almond slices, put on top a piece of the almond mixture about the size of an egg, and shape it into a crescent or croissant.
  5. Press the crescent or croissant pieces to fix the almonds and place them in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F).
  6. You can decorate the almond halawa or almond croissants with melted chocolate as desired, as shown in the accompanying photo.
  7. Ingredients for the marzipan dough:
  8. 1 1/2 cups ground almonds
  9. 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  10. 2 teaspoons vanilla
  11. 1 teaspoon orange blossom water
  12. 1 egg white
  13. How to prepare the marzipan dough:
  14. Put the almond flour and powdered sugar in a food processor and grind well until the mixture is smooth.
  15. Add the orange blossom water and vanilla, then process until the mixture is homogeneous.
  16. Finally add the egg white and process again until you have a marzipan dough.
  17. Place the marzipan dough in the refrigerator until ready to use; when using, bring it to room temperature.
