Mujadara with Rice or Mudardara

Mujadara with Rice, also known as Mudardara. The trick to this recipe is using the correct amount of water so the rice and lentils don't absorb too much. And of course, don't forget the fried onions on top!

Mujadara with Rice, or Mudardara... despite its simplicity, this recipe requires skill in preparation to prevent it from becoming mushy.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 cup red lentils
  • Onions
  • Chicken bouillon cube
  • Oil
  • Salt

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Put 3 cups of water in a pot over the heat
  2. When it boils, add the washed and drained lentils with the stock cube, oil, and salt
  3. When the lentils are half cooked, add the rice
  4. After it comes to a boil, reduce the heat, cover the pot, and leave it until the mujaddara is cooked
  5. ...In a frying pan, fry the onions cut into wedges until they are well browned
  6. Pour the rice mujaddara into a serving dish and spread the fried onions over it
