Ingredients
Start here, then move straight into the method.
- 200 grams white marshmallows, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- about 1 kilogram powdered sugar
- a pinch of salt
- 1 small teaspoon vanilla
- food coloring, a few drops (optional, to taste)
- Note
- If the fondant is for making shapes only, you can mix a little cornstarch with the powdered sugar when adding it over the melted marshmallows, because the cornstarch reduces the sweetness (optional)
- But if you're making fondant to cover a whole cake, do not add cornstarch because it causes the fondant to crack after some time
- You can also make 'Layali Lubnan' in Alissar's style
- Also from Alissar, here is macaroon dessert
- The wheat-and-milk dessert is another wonderful recipe from Alissar
Method
Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.
- In a pot over heat, put the water and oil and bring to a boil
- Add the marshmallow pieces and stir until they melt completely and the mixture becomes liquid
- Remove the pot from the heat, then add a pinch of salt and the vanilla, then the powdered sugar. Add the sugar in batches and mix until a smooth dough forms. Stop adding sugar when the dough holds together while remaining soft and smooth
- Wrap the fondant in food-grade plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to use
- When ready to use, take it out of the fridge half an hour before so it becomes soft again
- At this stage add a few drops of food coloring if you want to color the fondant, and add a very small amount of powdered sugar so the dough firms up again after adding the liquid coloring
- You can roll out the fondant on a clean surface and cover the cake entirely or cut shapes with cutters as desired
