Marshmallow fondant, an easy homemade recipe with guaranteed results. We made this fondant with marshmallows, and you can do it too and decorate your children’s birthday cake yourself :)

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 200 grams white marshmallows, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • about 1 kilogram powdered sugar
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 small teaspoon vanilla
  • food coloring, a few drops (optional, to taste)
  • Note
  • If the fondant is for making shapes only, you can mix a little cornstarch with the powdered sugar when adding it over the melted marshmallows, because the cornstarch reduces the sweetness (optional)
  • But if you're making fondant to cover a whole cake, do not add cornstarch because it causes the fondant to crack after some time
  • You can also make 'Layali Lubnan' in Alissar's style
  • Also from Alissar, here is macaroon dessert
  • The wheat-and-milk dessert is another wonderful recipe from Alissar

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. In a pot over heat, put the water and oil and bring to a boil
  2. Add the marshmallow pieces and stir until they melt completely and the mixture becomes liquid
  3. Remove the pot from the heat, then add a pinch of salt and the vanilla, then the powdered sugar. Add the sugar in batches and mix until a smooth dough forms. Stop adding sugar when the dough holds together while remaining soft and smooth
  4. Wrap the fondant in food-grade plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to use
  5. When ready to use, take it out of the fridge half an hour before so it becomes soft again
  6. At this stage add a few drops of food coloring if you want to color the fondant, and add a very small amount of powdered sugar so the dough firms up again after adding the liquid coloring
  7. You can roll out the fondant on a clean surface and cover the cake entirely or cut shapes with cutters as desired
