How to Make Maqanq (Homemade Sausages)

Homemade maqanq (sausages) are clean and high quality. You can add pine nuts or leave them out — either way you’ll love this recipe!

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • Half a kilo (½ kg) finely minced meat with a little fat (liya — a piece of fat)
  • Pine nuts — optional
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground mahalab
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ready-made sausage spice mix
  • Salt to taste

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Mix all the ingredients together well.
  2. Shape the sausages as you like and fry them in a little oil in a skillet until cooked through.
  3. Serve with fries, tomato slices, finely chopped lettuce and pickles. They’re delicious rolled as sandwiches — you can add a squeeze of lemon or a little mayonnaise to the sandwich.
