How to make the best traditional sweet maqroun with an easy, tested recipe!
Ingredients
- 2 cups coarse or fine semolina
- 1 cup white flour
- 1/2 cup ghee
- A pinch of instant yeast
- A pinch of salt
- A pinch of sugar
- Ground anise or anise seeds

Method
- We mix the yeast with a little water, then add the salt and sugar
- We add the semolina, flour, and ghee on top of the rest of the ingredients
- We knead the ingredients with water until we get a cohesive dough
- If desired, you can boil the anise and use the boiled anise water to knead the maqroun dough
- Cover the maqroun dough with kitchen plastic wrap and leave it for 10 minutes in the fridgeTimers: 10 min
- Heat the oil and start shaping the maqroun into circles, then pass them over a sieve to get maqroun fingers and place them directly into the hot oil
- When the maqroun pieces are browned, place them immediately into the syrup or sherbet
