Creamy Pasta Casserole

Creamy pasta is a super-tasty, practical French-style dish. You can add cheese and chicken or leave it vegetarian — either way it makes a rich, satisfying meal.

Creamy pasta is an easy, simple French-inspired recipe that is very rich. You can make it with chicken or keep it vegetarian, according to your preference.

Ingredients

  • 1 box penne pasta (500 g)
  • 1 carton liquid cream (1 liter)
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 meatball (or a few meatballs) — see notes
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 100 g mushrooms, fresh or canned
  • a pinch of salt
  • a pinch of dried herbs such as rosemary, basil, dried coriander, or others to taste
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • a sprinkling of grated mozzarella — optional
  • sliced boiled chicken — optional

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions, but boil it for only half the recommended time so it remains slightly undercooked.
  2. Remove it from the boiling water and leave it in a colander to drain.
  3. Cut the onion, meatballs (if using), and mushrooms into wedges or slices, and chop the red bell pepper into medium-sized cubes.
  4. In a suitable baking dish, add a little vegetable oil and gently sauté the vegetables for a few minutes to preserve their bright color. At this stage you can add slices of pre-boiled chicken (optional). Stir briefly.
  5. Add the drained pasta, sprinkle a little salt and the dried herbs you have, then pour the liquid cream over the ingredients.
  6. Place the creamy pasta casserole in a preheated oven 15 minutes before serving at medium heat — or heat it on the stove until the cream comes to a boil, then leave it for an additional 5 minutes after boiling so the sauce thickens slightly.

  7. Add the grated cheese on top (optional) and brown the top until it takes on a nice golden color (optional).
  8. Serve the pasta casserole immediately while hot, alongside any salad.
