Homemade Beef Shawarma
An easy homemade recipe for preparing beef shawarma. Another great thing about this recipe is that it is lighter than ready-made shawarma, and the balanced spices make it enjoyable for the whole family.
Ingredients
Start here, then move straight into the method.
- 1 kilo of beef suitable for shawarma
- A small cup of apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sweet spice
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (grated or ground)
- Vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (or powdered, depending on what is available)
- 1 onion
- 1 cup boiling water

Method
Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.
- Cut the shawarma meat into slices like steak... Leave the meat in a marinade of vinegar, sweet baharat, black pepper, ground cardamom, and nutmeg for 2 hours.Timers: 120 min
- After the required marinating time, fry the meat slices with a little vegetable oil in a wide skillet over high heat so the meat does not release its juices. We want the meat to brown on both sides. Do not add all the meat at once; cook it in batches so it fries well.
- Remove the meat from the heat and cut it into long strips for shawarma and set aside..
- In the same pan, sauté the crushed garlic with grated ginger, lemon zest and a grated onion; sauté them for about one minute, then add 1 cup of boiling water, lemon juice and salt.... After a minute add the shawarma pieces, cover the meat with aluminum foil and put the shawarma pan in a preheated oven on low heat.
- Serve the beef shawarma with a variety of vegetables such as finely chopped parsley, tomatoes, onions and radish, along with tahini (tarator) sauce and pickles
