English Fruit Cake

The English fruit cake is a classic bake that arrived to our region from English cuisine; it’s flavorful, easy to make, and loved by both adults and kids.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 100 g butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 tablespoons strawberry jam
  • Dried fruits as desired
  • Nuts as desired

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. First separate the egg whites from the yolks and whip the whites alone, then set them aside.
  2. Beat the butter and sugar well, then begin adding the egg yolks gradually with the vanilla and continue beating. Add the milk gradually and slowly while continuing to beat.
  3. Fold the whipped egg whites into the mixture using a wooden spoon from bottom to top. Add the sifted flour mixed with the baking powder and salt, and continue mixing.
  4. Pour part of the batter into the pan or loaf tin greased with oil and suitable for an English cake.
  5. Spread strawberry jam over the first layer of batter. Pour the remaining batter over it and top the pan with nuts and dried fruit.
  6. Bake the English cake in a preheated oven at 150°C for about 45 minutes.
