Turkish Cookies
An authentic Turkish-style cookie recipe that is wonderful in every sense! Enjoy with sweet treats, as a tea-time snack with labneh or thyme, and you can pack it for kids’ lunches. It takes a bit of time to prepare, but the ingredients are common in every home.
Ingredients
Start here, then move straight into the method.
- 5 cups flour (all-purpose)
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 20 grams yeast
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Glaze
- 1 egg white
- 3 tablespoons carob molasses or berry molasses
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 1/2 cups toasted sesame seeds
- In a bowl, mix the egg white, carob/molasses and 1/3 cup water well... dip the cookie in the molasses then in the sesame and place them on a baking sheet; let the dough rest another half hour as well, preheat the oven well and bake the koek
Method
Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.
- Place the warm milk and water with the yeast and stir well so the yeast dissolves...
- Add the oil, vinegar, sugar and salt and stir, then add half of the flour and continue mixing well...
- Add the remaining flour and knead for ten minutes until the flour is completely incorporated...
- Brush the dough with oil and let it rest for half an hour...
- After the required time, shape the dough into balls then into a long rope, fold it over itself and seal it to form the cookie shape.
