Zalabia
Zalabia made at home, with an especially delicious touch of anise! You can serve it for breakfast with labneh, for example, or turn it into a sweet treat by dipping it in sugar or syrup.
Zalabia is both a savory and sweet recipe at the same time! How? That depends on how you serve it.
Ingredients
Start here, then move straight into the method.
- 1 teaspoon anise
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 kilo flour + 1 cup
- A pinch of ka'k spice
- 1 cup liquid milk
- 1 cup sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon yeast
- Warm water as needed
Method
Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.
- Mix all the ingredients together, then add the water gradually and knead for at least 10 minutes until the dough comes together and becomes soft.Timers: 10 min
- Set it aside to rise well for at least an hour; it can also be left overnight.
- Heat plenty of oil, take pieces of dough, shape them lengthwise by hand, and place each piece directly into the oil after shaping.
- Fry until golden, then remove from the oil.
- Serve immediately with sugar, syrup, or shira, or with labneh and cheese as desired.
