Crispy biscuits — a simple, delicious recipe

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups fine semolina (semolina flour)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup plain yogurt (labneh-style or soured milk)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 200 g melted butter
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • A pinch of vanilla
  • 2 tbsp orange blossom water (mā' al-zaher)
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp milk for brushing the surface

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. In a bowl, combine the flour and semolina. Separately dissolve the sugar in the yogurt, then pour it over the flour and semolina. Add the remaining ingredients and knead well.
  2. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.

  3. Shape the dough as desired — hearts are one option. Cut small rounds of dough, roll each into a short rope with your hands, then curl the ends together to form a circle. Press the bottom (heel) gently to form a heart shape.
  4. Place the shaped pieces on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and brush the tops with the egg-and-milk mixture.
  5. Bake the biscuits for about 2 minutes or a little longer until the bottoms begin to brown, then brown the tops.
    Timers: 2 min
