Sausage Rolls

Sausage rolls are tasty pastries, especially loved by kids. Try this delicious, well-balanced recipe that pairs dough with a filling to yield a dish the whole family will enjoy.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 1 kilogram all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • Tomato sauce
  • A pinch dried oregano
  • A pinch ground nutmeg
  • Sausage meat or hot dogs
  • Sesame seeds

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. In a deep bowl, start by whisking the egg with lukewarm milk. Add sugar and yeast and mix well.
  2. Add half the vegetable oil with half the flour and continue mixing until the ingredients are well combined. Add the salt and baking powder at this stage, then add the remaining flour and oil. You should obtain a soft dough; if it sticks to your hands while kneading, you can add powdered milk instead of flour until it firms up.
  3. Knead the mixture well and let it rest for about an hour.
  4. After the resting time, divide the dough into equal circles and let them rest a bit longer.
  5. Prepare the sauce aside. Mix tomato sauce with a pinch of sugar, salt, oregano, and nutmeg.
  6. Roll out the dough circles and cut from the center into strips (as shown in the accompanying photos).
  7. Place a little sauce in each circle with a piece of sausage or hot dog and roll the circle so that the serrated edge closes over the meat.
  8. Place the sausage fingers on a baking sheet. Brush the pieces with the egg yolk mixed with two tablespoons of milk and sprinkle with sesame seeds, then bake in a preheated oven at 200°C until browned.
