Ingredients:

1 cup sugar

1 cup olive oil

\r\n

1 cup cashew milk or regular milk or water

\r\n

4 1/2 to 5 cups flour (adjust as needed for dough)

\r\n

1 tablespoon baking powder

\r\n

1 tablespoon ground caraway

\r\n

1 tablespoon anise seeds

\r\n \r\n \r\n

For the filling:

\r\n

1/2 kilogram dates

\r\n

2 tablespoons olive oil

\r\n

1 tablespoon orange blossom water

\r\n

1 tablespoon rose water

\r\n

1/2 cup ground walnuts

\r\n

A pinch of cinnamon

\r\n

Sesame seeds for garnish

\r\n \r\n \r\n

Method:

Mix sugar, milk (or water) and oil well, then gradually add flour with baking powder…

Knead well to obtain a smooth dough. Roll it into a rectangle and fill with the date-walnut mixture as shown in the accompanying photos. Roll up, then decorate with sesame seeds

\r\n

Cut the maqrouta into the size you want and place the tray in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 12 minutes, or until the cookies brown and the dough is cooked. Do not overbake, or they’ll be hard
