Easy Tiger Cake
A distinctive tiger (zebra) cake — super easy. The secret is in how you pour the white and cocoa batters into the pan to get the signature pattern.

Tiger cake... or "leopard" cake... its pattern is distinctive and tempting — impossible to resist!!
Ingredients
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups sugar
- a pinch of salt
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1 cup oil
- For the white batter: 1½ cups sifted flour + 1 teaspoon baking powder
- For the cocoa batter: 1½ cups flour (reduce by 3 tablespoons) + 3 tablespoons cocoa + 1 teaspoon baking powder
Method
- Using an electric mixer, beat the eggs, vanilla, sugar and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- Gradually add the warm milk and the oil while continuing to beat.
- Divide the batter evenly. To the first portion add 1½ cups sifted flour with 1 teaspoon baking powder and stir.
- For the second portion, make it brown: add the sifted flour with the cocoa and 1 teaspoon baking powder and mix to obtain a cocoa batter.
- Grease the cake pan with a little butter and dust with flour. Begin by adding a little of the white batter, then a little of the brown batter on top, alternating until all the batter is used.
- Use a long wooden skewer to draw the pattern you want on the surface.
- Place the pan in an oven preheated to 180°C (350°F). Bake for about 30 minutes (after preheating) or until done — watch as oven performance varies.Timers: 30 min
- Brown the top of the tiger cake for about 5 minutes only (under the broiler/grill) to finish.Timers: 5 min
- Serve the tiger cake after it cools to room temperature.
