Ingredients

  • 6 slices sandwich bread (crusts removed)
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ kg (500 g) Akawi cheese or mozzarella
  • 2 cups crushed cornflakes
  • 3 tablespoons sugar syrup (qater/shira)

Method

  1. Roll a slice of toast bread with a rolling pin after removing the hard crusts, rolling it until thin.
  2. Place the cheese on the slice of toast, cover with a second slice, and press the two together to seal.
  3. In a bowl, beat the eggs lightly, dip the sandwich in the egg, then coat it with the crushed cornflakes.
  4. Heat a frying pan over medium heat, add one tablespoon of butter, place the sandwich in the pan and fry until golden on both sides. Serve on a plate alongside the syrup.
