Safouf made with a tried-and-true homemade recipe every time .. give it a try

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric (yellow spice)
  • 1 tablespoon ground anise
  • 1 cup melted ghee
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 cup fine semolina or farina
  • 1 tablespoon tahini for greasing the pan

Method

  1. Mix the dry ingredients together, then add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  2. Grease the bottom and sides of a medium baking pan with tahini, then pour the safouf mixture into it.
  3. Preheat the oven, then bake the safouf at 160°C for 40 minutes.
    Timers: 40 min
  4. When done, remove it from the oven and cover it with a plastic bag until it cools, then cut and serve.
