Method

  1. Mix one tablespoon of sugar with the yeast and a cup of warm milk; you can substitute water for the milk if desired.
  2. When the mixture proofs, add the remaining two tablespoons of sugar, then add the flour, red food coloring, salt, vinegar, and butter. Knead the mixture, adding more flour if needed.
  3. You should obtain a soft, easily shaped dough; set it aside to rest for about 15 minutes.
  4. After the resting time, roll out the dough and spread butter and brown sugar with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon; you may add a dash of cocoa if you like.
  5. Roll the dough into a sandwich-like roll. Cut it to the desired thickness and arrange the cinnamon rounds or spirals on a lightly buttered baking tray or on parchment paper.
  6. Leave space between the cinnamon rolls because they will expand when baking. Let the cinnamon rolls rest for about 15 minutes before baking.
  7. If desired, brush the tops with a mixture of egg and liquid milk with one teaspoon of Nescafé.
  8. Place the cinnamon roll tray into a preheated oven at 180°C on the top rack.
  9. When the cinnamon rolls are cooked through on the bottom, brown them on top until they turn golden.
  10. When the cinnamon rolls are done, remove them from the oven and spread a mixture of powdered sugar, one tablespoon of liquid milk, and a dash of vanilla over them. Alternatively, if you prefer, drizzle sweetened condensed milk on the rolls and sprinkle with cinnamon or nuts.
