Recipe story

Petifor without an oven or mixer... Could it be any easier???

Ingredients

  • 250 g flour (about 2 cups)
  • 50 g powdered sugar (just under 1/2 cup — about 2 tablespoons less)
  • 100 g softened butter at room temperature (1/2 cup)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • A pinch of salt
  • Here is the link to Umm Taha's churros (churros dough) recipe: How to make churros dough
  • Umm Taha's chocolate syrup (liquid chocolate for dipping) is also available here: Chocolate syrup / liquid chocolate for dipping

Method

  1. In a bowl, put the butter and powdered sugar and stir with a wooden spoon until combined, lightened in color and creamy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla and mix well by hand until incorporated and the mixture feels thicker.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the dry ingredients, then gradually add them to the egg-and-butter mixture and fold by hand without kneading until all the flour is incorporated.
  4. Let the petifor dough rest for about one hour.
  5. After an hour, shape the dough as desired.
  6. Use a nonstick frying pan. Place a sheet of aluminum foil on the pan and heat it over medium heat until the pan is hot.
  7. Place the petifor pieces on the foil, cover completely with a pot lid, then lower the heat after five minutes.
  8. Leave them on low heat until they change color to brown, about 15 minutes.
    Timers: 15 min
  9. Once the petifor pieces have cooled, coat them with melted chocolate and decorate as you like.
