Original muhallabia — a very delicious homemade recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 liter milk
  • 4 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp orange blossom water (or rose water)
  • A pinch of ground mastic, pounded with a pinch of sugar
  • For garnish: any nuts you prefer

Method

  1. In a bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in half a cup of cold milk.
  2. Put the remaining milk in a pot over the heat with the sugar and vanilla, and continue stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. When the milk heats up, add the cup of milk with the cornstarch and continue stirring without stopping until the mixture thickens.
  4. Then add the orange blossom water and mastic, reduce the heat while stirring for a few more minutes, then turn off the heat.
  5. Pour the muhallabia into cups or glasses and leave them to cool at room temperature, then place them in the refrigerator until well chilled.
  6. At serving, garnish the muhallabia with nuts and serve.
