Recipe story

A very delicious homemade Ghraybeh recipe, made the traditional way

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter for baking, unsalted and not melted
  • Vanilla, or a pinch of mahleb, or 1 tablespoon orange blossom water
  • Recipe and method for Ghraybeh dessert from our friend and chef on the What Are We Cooking Today site:

Method

  1. Mix the sugar and butter well until you have a pale, creamy mixture
  2. Add the flour and mix well—use an electric mixer or by hand—and knead to obtain a cohesive, soft dough
  3. Place it in a plastic bag and refrigerate for two to four hours
  4. After that, preheat the oven well
  5. Form the ghraybeh into balls and decorate as desired—for example, place a pistachio nut on each cookie
  6. Bake them in the oven at 150°C until the cookies dry without browning... this will take about seven minutes, depending on the oven
  7. Let them cool on the baking sheet, then arrange the cookies on a serving plate and serve at room temperature
