Recipe story
Dawood Basha with potatoes is one of the most delicious and practical Turkish dishes that the whole family loves. Some add garlic to the sauce, while others stick to onion only. How do you make it??
Ingredients
- Half a kilo (500 g) potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
- Salt
- Plenty of oil for frying the potatoes
- Meat:
- Half a kilo (500 g) minced meat
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- A few sprigs of parsley and fresh cilantro, finely chopped
- Half a teaspoon black pepper
- Half a teaspoon seven-spice mix
- 1 teaspoon salt
- The sauce or broth:
- 1/4 cup oil
- 1 medium onion, cut into wedges
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- Half a teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups water
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
Method
- Knead the meat well with the marinade ingredients: onion, garlic, spices, salt, parsley, and coriander, then shape it into small to medium balls
- Place the meatballs in the freezer for just half an hour so they firm up and do not fall apart when frying
- In the meantime, salt the potato cubes and fry them in plenty of hot oil until golden
- Remove them from the oil and let them drain, or place them on kitchen paper
- Put the tomato paste and water (2 cups) in a small pot over the heat and let them boil until they reduce a little
- In a pot or baking dish over the heat, add the oil and sauté the onion wedges until softened, then add the crushed garlic and stir, then add the meatballs and turn them until browned on all sides
- Add the potatoes, then the black pepper, adjust the salt, and pour in the red sauce that we boiled separately in a pot
- Leave the Dawood Basha with potatoes for about 20 minutes over low heat, then serve it with white rice or rice cooked with vermicelliTimers: 20 min
