Colorful cookies shaped like buttons — a lovely idea for birthdays. Everything you can imagine — and even things you don’t — you’ll find here :)

3/4 cup (180 g) butter, at room temperature

1/4 cup (32 g) cream cheese

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

Food coloring, as desired

In a bowl, beat the butter, cream cheese and sugar until the mixture is light and creamy.
Add the egg and vanilla, and beat until combined.
In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and salt, then add them to the butter mixture.
Stir until you have a smooth dough.
Divide the dough in half. Add a drop of different food coloring to each portion and knead well until colored.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.
After 2 hours, begin working with the dough.
Roll each portion on a lightly floured surface to a thickness slightly under 1/2 cm.
Use a round cookie cutter to cut out the cookies.
With a slightly smaller round cutter, press a shallow circle inside each cookie without cutting all the way through.
Use a wooden skewer to make two small holes in the center of each cookie so they look like buttons.
Carefully lift the cookies and arrange them on parchment paper on a baking tray.
Chill the trays in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before baking in a preheated oven at 175°C (350°F).
Bake the colorful button cookies for 8 to 10 minutes.
When baked, remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
Serve the colorful button cookies once completely cooled.
