Recipe story

Chocolate cake made the easiest way, no contest. It’s cooked in a pan on the stovetop, with no oven, and the topping on top is wonderfully simple. This cake is perfect for birthday parties.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • For the topping:
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons Nutella
  • For garnish:
  • Chocolate pieces

Method

  1. Using a hand whisk, beat the egg, vanilla, salt, and sugar until the sugar dissolves well.
  2. Add the oil and whisk well until the mixture is combined.
  3. Sift the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder, add them in batches, and whisk.
  4. Grease a nonstick pan with butter, pour in the cake batter, then remove any air by tapping the pan several times on the floor or any hard surface.
  5. Place the pan over very low heat and cover tightly.
  6. After about 17 minutes, the cake in the pan will be done. Check it, then turn off the heat.
    Timers: 17 min
  7. Let it cool before whisking the topping ingredients and spreading them over the top.
  8. Decorate the chocolate cake pan with chocolate pieces, or as desired.
