Recipe story

Candied apples are an easy, inexpensive, old-fashioned treat that’s very popular these days. Here’s how to make them.

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon acid... or 1/4 teaspoon salt or lemon acid
  • 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring
  • Wooden skewers

Method

  1. First, wash the apples and dry them well
  2. Insert the wooden skewers into the apples
  3. In a pot over the heat, put the sugar, water, acid, and food coloring and boil them for five minutes
  4. Test the syrup with a small plate.. put a little water in the plate, then pour in a little of the syrup.. the syrup should become as thick as gum
  5. Coat the apples with the colored syrup, then arrange them on a tray greased with a little oil so the syrup does not stick to the tray
