Namoura (Harisa)
You may know this dessert as Namoura, or you may call it Harisa; in either case, it’s a tasty recipe with readily available ingredients.
Ingredients
Start here, then move straight into the method.
- 2 cups semolina
- 4 tablespoons shredded coconut
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup butter or ghee
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1 tablespoon rose water 1 tablespoon orange blossom water
- 1 cup water
- Syrup (shira)
Method
Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.
- Whisk all ingredients well until you get a smooth batter.
- Pour into a pan greased lightly with sesame or tahini. Spread evenly.
- Cut Namoura into lines lengthwise and crosswise and scatter almonds into the squares. Let the pan rest for about half an hour.
- After the resting time, place the Namoura pan in a preheated oven at 200 degrees and bake until browned and cooked through.
- Remove the Namoura and pour syrup over it while hot, then return to the off but still-warm oven. Keep in the warm oven for about 5 minutes.Timers: 5 min
