Mabroosha Cake

Mabroosha Cake is a dessert that holds many childhood memories; a simple, tried-and-true home recipe you can make for your kids to tuck into their lunchbox.

Mabroosha Cake is a cherished childhood memory; prepare it for your kids to carry those memories with them.

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons powdered milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Jam of any available type or according to preference

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. Mix the eggs with the sugar, oil, baking powder and powdered milk.
  2. Add the water and stir to obtain a homogeneous but soft and not stiff batter.
  3. Divide the Mabroosha cake batter into two parts; spread the first part in the cake or baking pan.
  4. Place the pan in the oven until the first layer is cooked; when it turns pale golden, remove it from the oven and spread a layer of jam of any available type or to taste.
  5. Add a little flour to the second part of the batter we set aside, then grate this portion of the dough over the jam layer to create the 'mabroosha' topping.
  6. Place the Mabroosha cake pan with the jam in a preheated oven at 180°C until it turns golden; when it cools, cut as desired and serve.
