How to Make Sahlab at Home

Sahlab is a delicious warm drink/dessert, often served with a sprinkle of cinnamon or other delicate flavorings. Perfect with cake or cookies—make it at home and enjoy its warmth.

Sahlab... nothing beats it on cold days. Make it for guests and the kids and enjoy it by the fireplace :)

Ingredients

Start here, then move straight into the method.

  • 1½ liters (about 6 cups) milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cornstarch, dissolved in 1 cup water
  • 4 tablespoons orange blossom water
  • Ground cinnamon for garnish — optional
  • Grated coconut for garnish — optional
  • Finely ground pistachios for garnish — optional

Method

Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.

  1. In a pot, put the milk on the stove and bring it to a boil
  2. Add the sugar and orange blossom water, stirring continuously until the sugar is completely dissolved
  3. Add the dissolved starch and stir until the boiling milk thickens slightly
  4. Pour the sahlab into appropriate cups or glasses and sprinkle cinnamon, desiccated coconut, and pistachios on top as desired
  5. Serve the sahlab immediately while hot, with cake
