Candied apples are an easy, inexpensive, old-fashioned treat that’s very popular these days. Here’s how to make them.
Ingredients
Start here, then move straight into the method.
- 6 small apples
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon acid... or 1/4 teaspoon salt or lemon acid
- 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring
- Wooden skewers
Method
Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.
- First, wash the apples and dry them well
- Insert the wooden skewers into the apples
- In a pot over the heat, put the sugar, water, acid, and food coloring and boil them for five minutes
- Test the syrup with a small plate.. put a little water in the plate, then pour in a little of the syrup.. the syrup should become as thick as gum
- Coat the apples with the colored syrup, then arrange them on a tray greased with a little oil so the syrup does not stick to the tray
- Leave them for a little while to dry on the outside, then serve
