Coconut Basbousa... what could be a tastier dessert than this?!
Ingredients
Start here, then move straight into the method.
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cups fine semolina
- 2 tablespoons yogurt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- lemon zest
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1 cup desiccated coconut
- hot syrup (shira)
- Nuts - optional

Method
Follow the cooking sequence without leaving the page.
- Beat the eggs with the sugar until lightly combined.
- Add the liquid ingredients and mix well.
- Add the remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. You can add the optional nuts at this stage.
- Grease the baking pan with butter or tahini and pour the basbousa mixture into it.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C until the basbousa is cooked through.
- Brown the top for 5 minutes only.Timers: 5 min
- Remove the pan from the oven and pour the hot syrup over it immediately.
- Serve after it has cooled to room temperature.
