Recipe story

Fake kunafa with cream, an easy homemade recipe... This kunafa will do the trick if you don't have kunafa dough or even cheese. It's a really great and economical recipe.

Ingredients

  • 12 slices soft toast bread
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • A pinch of rose water and orange blossom water
  • Butter for the tray
  • Cream:
  • 1 liter milk
  • 3/4 cup fine semolina
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • A pinch of orange blossom water and rose water
  • Syrup for serving

Method

  1. Grind the soft toast bread in an electric blender.
  2. Add the butter, sugar, orange blossom water, and rose water, and rub everything together.
  3. Butter a baking tray, then spread in the mixture and press it down well, reserving a little of the toast mixture on the side.
  4. Prepare the cream separately. In a pot, combine the milk, fine semolina, cornstarch, flour, sugar, orange blossom water, and rose water, and mix well.
  5. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring, then remove the cream from the heat once it boils and thickens.
  6. Pour it over the toast base in the tray, then sprinkle the remaining toast mixture we set aside over the cream.
  7. Place the tray in the oven with the bottom heat on and bake at 180°C until the underside is golden.
  8. Wait a little before inverting the tray onto a plate larger than it.
  9. After 10 minutes, turn the tray out onto the serving plate, immediately drizzle cold syrup all over the top, and serve the fake kunafa with cream right away... You can add more syrup when serving, حسب الرغبة
