Easy homemade falafel... try this method and discover how simple it is to make falafel at home
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups dried chickpeas + 1/2 cup split fava beans, soaked overnight
- 3 green onions, chopped (discard the tough green stem)
- 2 garlic cloves, chopped
- A few sprigs of cilantro and parsley
- 1/4 tablespoon salt
- 1/4 tablespoon black pepper
- 1/4 tablespoon dried coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon falafel spice
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon raw sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup water — if needed (optional)
Method
- Pulse the drained chickpeas and fava beans in a food processor until coarsely ground.
- Add the spices and salt, then process again to combine.
- Let the mixture rest for about two hours.
- About 10 minutes before frying, add the baking powder, sesame seeds, and a little water if the mixture is too thick or dry. Mix and knead well.Timers: 10 min
- Shape the falafel into patties using a falafel scoop or mold.
- Fry the falafel in plenty of very hot oil. After forming each patty, put it straight into the oil and wait until it browns before removing.
- Note: This quantity makes about 20 falafel patties.
