Quick homemade safouf... a simple home recipe with a delicious result.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup fine semolina
  • 1 level teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 level teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 level teaspoon turmeric (for yellow color)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Tahini for greasing the pan
  • Oil or butter for browning the top

Method

  1. Sift the all-purpose flour and fine semolina together with the vanilla, baking powder, and turmeric.
  2. Add the sugar and mix, then add the liquids and beat the mixture with an electric mixer for about 3 minutes.

  3. Let the safouf batter rest for about 30 minutes.
    Timers: 30 min
  4. Grease the pan with tahini and pour the batter into it. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (about 390°F) for around 20 minutes, or adjust according to your oven.

  5. Brush the top with oil or butter, then brown the top for about 10 minutes, watching closely.

  6. Allow the safouf to cool completely before serving.
